Our Approach

Integrated Learning

Marymount Preschool Curriculum is an integrated, hands-on curriculum. It stems from the pedagogy of experiential learning. Lesson plans are exciting and filled with opportunities to touch, make, create, fail, and try again. The spiral curriculum design explores topics that help children understand the world. Adopting Urie Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory, the curriculum begins with the understanding of self, moving on to the immediate environment, the surrounding community, and then the world. The other emphasis of this curriculum is the building of social skills and relationships as knowledge of the world grows. The curriculum aims to make learning come alive – through head, hands and heart!

Jolly Phonics + Grammar

The whole purpose of learning phonics is to help children to read and write. That is the reason why Jolly Phonics and Grammar is adopted in our curriculum. From the learning of the phonetic sounds it leads children to blend, read and write. Words that children will spell stem from the sound that they have learned for the week. It is with the intention of helping children gain the phonetic skill instead of route learning.

Jolly Grammar is taught through songs, Big Books and kinesthetic actions. These skills will be taught and consolidated in N2 and K1. In K2, children will move on to Jolly Grammar. They will learn writing conventions, grammar skills, alternative sounds and high frequency words which aid them in writing sentences and short paragraphs.

Thalespin

Thalespin is a locally developed Maths curriculum that bridges the skills from pre-school to primary school. It is co-developed by a local Mathematician who oversaw the writing of primary school textbooks and an Early Childhood lecturer. Thalespin is designed with lots of hands-on learning.

Every lesson begins with a Big Book, followed by class problem-solving, individual hands-on and finally, activity sheets. Once every 5 weeks, children will get to bring home a Home Partnership to think alongside with their parents.

Literacy Based Curriculum

In the Early years, Literacy Based Curriculum is taught with the intent of building and strengthening language. Using storybook engages and draws children into the book. Concepts are taught around the themes in the book. The books are carefully chosen to ensure a good variety of themes and knowledge.

Lessons encompass hands-on, and experiential learning to involve self-help skills learning and social skills building.

Pure Chinese offering (only for Pre-Nursery and Nursery)

Under the Pure Chinese Programme (PCP) children in the Pre-Nursery and Nursery classes will be taught in Chinese on a daily basis. The emphasis is to create and generate interest and love for the Chinese language through listening and speaking.

From K1, children will be placed in bilingual classes to prepare for mainstream learning.

Parents are praising Marymount Preschool

What makes them love us?

Our eldest had a blast in his preschool years at MPS, but was also well prepared to take on primary school. We were pleasantly surprised that there were minimal hiccups in his first few weeks of P1, and he was able to jump right into the new school year independently and seamlessly. With our second child, we noticed a significant difference in his Mandarin comprehension after just two weeks at MPS. From being uninterested in the language, he is now confidently trying out new vocabulary, even at home. My husband and I appreciate the effort and preparation that goes into each activity and lesson at MPS, but especially like that they put focus on building good character first. We look forward to enrolling our youngest there too.

Our boys have had a wonderful 5 years at Marymount Preschool. The teachers provide a caring and supportive environment, and the weekly swimming sessions are something that our kids look forward to each week. The hands-on experiments at the kindergarten levels were a particular hit with my eldest too.

Mother of Elias (K2, 2025) & Jesse (K1, 2025)
My children had the best early years at faith-based Marymount Preschool, with an emphasis on character building through a value-based culture. The curriculum helped transition the children from preschool to primary level and Marymount Preschool graduates are equipped with a strong foundation to guide them through their learning journey in life.

We're forever grateful to Marymount Preschool for nurturing our sons, Clovis and Caius. Clovis' experience not only brought joy and academic growth but also introduced our family to the Catholic faith, leading to our baptism. Marymount Preschool is a place full of love where the loving teachers and staff provided exceptional care, giving us peace of mind. Both our sons thrived in the warm and supportive environment, and we appreciate the values and faith they've developed. Thank you, Marymount Preschool, for being a second home to our children!
